DRINK FINDER:   I WANT TO FIND...      IN...

Tastemaker Adam Rubenstein

WHERE TO FIND HIM: Equal parts Sushi Chef/Catering Cook at Wolfgang Puck Catering and Los Angeles food blogger and creator of VivaLAfoodies.com.  Encompassing both hands on food production as a chef and as well as having aspirations of being a food writer/culinary producer has enabled me to create VivaLAfoodies and bring food fanatics from Los Angeles together.  The site serves as diverse multicultural food resource and digital gathering place for Angelenos seeking a taste of adventure, local flavors and an outlet to network amongst other area foodies.

HOW HE GOT THERE: I have always been obsessed about food but didn’t realize until recently how great it is to document each and every important food journey, both as a way to capture for yourself, but also to share your experience with others. Culinary school, working with great catering companies and networking with passionate individuals and a belief in myself doing something I enjoy has brought me to this point.

WHY HE LIKES IT: I like making people happy through the food and culinary art that I create.  I also like the fact that each day is a new challenge.  Most importantly, “food doesn’t talk back”!

INSPIRATIONS AND MENTORS: There are too many mentors to mention, but I will breakdown a few as follows:

Martin Yan-”Yan Can Cook”
Jacques Pépin(chef and tv personality)
Daniel Boulud, chef and author
and I can’t forget, most importantly, Wolfgang Puck

WHAT MAKES HIS PERSPECTIVE UNIQUE: I approach my food writing with a “real life” perspective.  I understand my featured guests as well as my target audience.  All content has come to the site organically and this is grown out of a respect for the culinary community locally.

ADVICE FOR ASPIRING FOOD JOURNALISTS: Knowledge is key and if you understand food, its origins and where today’s chefs are coming from than you have a good chance of being successful.

CURRENT FAVES:
Coffee:  Groundworks Venice & Hollywood (depending on where I am in this great city)
Wine/Food:  BottleRock Downtown:  Amazing, creative food as well
Beer/Food:  The Six Restaurant(WestLA), Simmzy’s (Manhattan Beach)

PERFECT DAY OFF: My perfect day off is spending time around the house and going on food related adventures with Marissa “the wife” and spending time with our dog Buju.  Going Zen with the family keeps me grounded and inspires me to be more creative with my craft and culinary artistry.
