Swork Coffee

Admittedly, I once looked upon Swork Coffee with complete disdain. I love my coffee, and, like any self-respectable coffee snob, I’m really particular about it. When I moved to Eagle Rock, I was ecstatic to see that there was a local coffee spot just a couple blocks away. Then I went in for some coffee. Since I like my coffee STRONG, of course I ordered a cup of their “Truck Driver” blend. After all, we all know that truck drivers need LOTS of caffeine so they can drive all night long, so this coffee just had to be good and strong. I took a sip and realized the name was more synonymous with being punched in the face by a truck driver. Ugh. Really bitter, and I imagine my face twisted up like I’d been socked for parking my car too close to a Mac’s rig at the truck stop. What a letdown, I thought.
Fortunately the story gets better. In subsequent visits, I have discovered that their other coffee is really quite pleasant. Delicious even. So delicious, as a matter of fact, that I’ve started buying my beans here and might go so far as to say I look forward to waking up in the morning for my cup of joe. I get a blend of their French and Velvet beans, which combine to make one of the most satisfying full-bodied, smooth cups of coffee I could ever hope to have, particularly brewed in my own humble abode.
In addition to coffee, they also have a nice selection of teas and smoothies. The place is always busy with people on laptops taking advantage of the free wifi. If you’ve got writer’s block and are seeking extra stimulation, they’ve got you covered there, too. They’ve set up a little “creativity” area in the back with blocks, trains, and spongy-shaped letters in the back for you to work through your block. Some seem to think this is a kids’ play area, so don’t say I didn’t warn you.
